About Us:
OBJECTIVE:
Comsossportsjobs.com is designed to
effectively match those job seekers with a passion to work in the sports
industry with employers from throughout the sports marketplace in Canada.
People Love Sports:
The most watched events in the world are sporting events. If it is the
Olympics or the World Cup which draw billions of viewers, or closer to home
where the World Series and the Stanley Cup fill sports bars and living rooms across the country, a vast amount of people are attracted to sports.
Sports has its own section in virtually every newspaper in the country, has its own segment on the nightly news, and now has three national television stations devoted to 24 hours of sports coverage.
Furthermore, the athletes at the top of the game are paid astronomical salaries whereby the average salaries exceed $1 Million per year; and buying a professional sports franchise will cost an investor hundreds of millions of dollars.
What does all this mean? Well for one thing, the passion for sports is alive and well and rampant throughout the world. People like to watch sports, compete in sports and feel as though are a part of the sports environment.
Cosmossportsjobs.com is a vehicle that has the intention of bringing some of the most passionate sports minded people closer to what they love doing.
Why Not Love Your Job?
The Average Canadian works for roughly half of his or her waking hours from Monday to Friday. Unfortunately, a 1999 Work Canada Survey showed that 47% employees are not satisfied in their current employment.
While financial remuneration is an important factor for most, job satisfaction is of equal or more significance. In spite of this result, many people with the capacity to change their occupation are complacent and remain unsatisfied professionally for most of their lives. If you work from age 25 to age 65, you will be spending 76,800 hours at work. That is a lot of clock watching.
Cosmos Sports is determined to help those who have a passion for sports and have both the potential and the ambition to work within the business, to find a career that will offer enjoyment on a daily basis. The industry in Canada has been remiss in providing an effective platform to match sports jobs with job seekers.
Hopefully, cosmossportsjobs.com will be able to change this reality.
Supply and Demand
As mentioned an enormous demand for anything to do with sports exists, and as a result many people would be willing to make sacrifices, be it financial or geographical, to work in the sports field.
For instance, of the thirty million people living in Canada, many have dreams of playing in the National Hockey League, perhaps for the Calgary Flames, with the chance to win the Stanley Cup. However, of those thirty million Canadians, only 400 have regular jobs in the National Hockey League. While it is a great aspiration to play for your favourite sporting team, chances are very remote at best.
Alternatively, the good news is that working in sports is a very attainable goal. Firstly, you need not be a superior athlete. Those behind the scenes, in the front offices have a very different set of skills.
Secondly, there are so many different sports directions from athlete representation, to event management, to physiotherapy, to sports retail, to ticket sales, to community relations, to sports media, that your choices are virtually endless.
Part of cosmossportsjobs.com purpose is to identity the true breadth and magnitude of the sports business in this country.
Transition from canadiansportsjobs.com to cosmossportsjobs.com
In July of 2004 when the initial
canadiansportsjobs.com website launched part of the initial objective was to
offer to Canadians what had previously only existed south of the border: a
vechicle to find sports career opportunities throughout Canada and to do so
at no price.
In the first 18
months of the sites existence over 6,500 people have registered, and
numerous employers and job seekers have reaped the benefit of the site.
Recently, while the
Canadian content remains high, their has been a growing need for both
non-Canadian companies, looking for simply the best candidate, and similarly
for Canadians not restricted by geography to have the best opportunities
regardless of where they are.
While the free flow
of employees is still an obstacle, and Visa issues remain a hurdle, the
demand warranted the expansion of the service.
As a result, and
further with the name ‘Cosmos’ implying much grander landscapes than that of
Canada, we felt the time was right to re-brand and re-define the site and
the service. As a result, on March 1, 2006, in a seamless fashion to our
existing users, canadiansportsjobs.com has been quietly transformed into
cosmsossportsjobs.com
We are Sports Marketers not Head Hunters
One challenge in the business of sports, as in many other industries is that the ‘experts’ in finding candidates for employers often have a very poor grasp of your specific industry.
While it clearly takes different skills to be a chef, a airline pilot, an accountant and a steelworker, often times the same organizations do the hiring for all these positions.
We believe that it is of great benefit to have individuals who understand the industry, being a part of the employment process.
As a result, the employees of Cosmossportsjobs.com, are employees of Cosmos Sports a Canadian based sports management company, focused first and foremost on the sports industry and all its facets. From ticket sales, athlete management, and franchise management, Cosmos Sports employees share the passion and understanding for sports that you as a job seeker likely also possesses. Everyone at cosmossportsjobs.com is a sports fan.
Sports Careers 101 and Cosmos Sports Institute
Cosmos Sports has rapidly grown to become a leader in the sports careers field. In the past year, Cosmos has run two highly successful Sports Career Conferences.
With speakers from the Fan 590, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, the Canadian Football League, The Toronto Blue Jays, the WWE, IMG, The Globe & Mail, and many more, all addressing ‘sports careers’ and the industry’s need to develop those with the desire to work in the business of sport.
With over 120 attendees, many of which achieved direct employment as a result of their participation at the conference, Sports Careers 101 Conferences have been very well received from all participants.
Cosmossportsjobs.com has originated as much from feedback of those in and around the industry, as it has from the boardrooms of Cosmos Sports.
